QT 3 Outside Reading TWELEVE

Today I read a website that was very helpful in providing me insight on what imperialism is and some of the causes and effects of it. This website was published by Spunk Library, I read section, D.5 What causes imperialism. The first thing i concluded from the reading was that imperialism is mainly a power trip for strong countries, and a way from them to increase the amount of money and resources they have. I also learned that it is an effect of war. This is because war often causes already unstable countries to crack, allowing its victors to take over and assume control. When these victors do so they gain much money and power. Also I learned that imperialism is a capitalist action, and capitalist are motivated to imperialism again by the idea of gaining more land, resources, and money, in other words obtaining more capital. Although not stated in the text I also believe that imperialism can sometimes cause more problems for the overseeing country then they ever bargained for. This is because they gain so much land that the controller no longer has the time or energy to devote to each country. The lack of time leads to problems within the country and eventually turmoil that will cause the whole "empire" to collapse. I learned a lot from this text and it really cleared up what imperialism means.
